Hey There!

It’s just me trying to keep life together like most of you….4 kids and living the dream with my high school sweetheart. Balancing a full time career as a university professor and therapist, I’m taking in all the chaos, laundry, random sicknesses, and family “vacations.” There’s good and sweet moments too. The days are long, the years are short they say…

Loving all things small town Iowa: Corn fields, big meals with family, hard work and faith to get us through.

I was the girl on the court pumping my fists after big plays and I feel the same when I see people heal and know their worth. I believe getting through the crap and baggage is worth it in the end. I hope you feel safe and seen here.

How I got here…

  • 2006

Graduated with my bachelor of social work degree, married my high school sweetheart and moved to Florida. Began pursuing my masters in social work and worked with delinquent teenagers and sexually abused children. Here began my passion for serving those that have been sexually abused. I also began to value diversity in new ways.

Moved back to Iowa after 4.5 years in Florida. Began working with children in foster care and adoption. We had struggled with infertility so became licensed foster parents with plans to adopt. I received my terminal license as a social worker and continued my work providing therapy for members of the community. I also began adjunct teaching in social work at Dordt University

Tenley Scott was born. I was an anxious mama, worried I would screw it all up and lose what we prayed so hard for. I eventually learned how to balance all things working mom. We’ll just say my hubby carried me through this time.

I was operating a private practice serving kids and families in my community and still teaching social work students.

We had a miscarriage early in the year but we were blessed with our first son Cason in November. Being a college athlete and marathon finisher has nothing on the pain of labor.

I took on more teaching but still did mental health treatment focusing mostly on kids and teens, many had been abused.

Taylor Grace (#3) was born on May 10 and dad my died in October after a farming accident. Grief sucks. I started to lean into doing hard things and developed more appreciation for life and health.

I took a step back from direct practice to focus on teaching and family. I stayed in touch with clinical conversation by supervising social workers seeking their terminal license.

I gave the commencement speech at my college and decided to pursue a doctoral degree in social work. 3 weeks after being accepted into the program we found out we were pregnant with #4. That was a surprise.

I was still teaching, supervising, and dabbling with all things helping.

COVID scared us all and I managed to have our 4th in February while continuing to pursue my doctoral degree.

Grace upon Grace (Did I mention I have a great husband?)

I began to see the value in online learning as a teacher and student. I knew there were more ways to connect with people that were hurting.

Finished up my doctor of social work degree.

I started to look up how to create a website so I could share the many things I’ve learned along the way.

  • 2022

Started a blog, gained a following, and provided the first faith based virtual trauma group for women. I began serving community members virtually doing therapy and continue to do all I can to provide education to my students and the community

Asked God if there was space in my life to begin seeing people in person again. He provided a wonderful office space in Hull. I began supervision and training in neurofeedback treatment and carry a full caseload serving people on Fridays each week. I love this work so much.
